The kids are great. We all made guitars out of rubberbands and boxes and danced an out of control congo line to Harry Belafonte's "Shake, Shake, Shake Senora" on repeat. Never anything according to plan but I'm never one to discourage spontaneous, creative play as long as nobody gets hurt.

We picked weeds and flowers along city curbsides and made raggedy bouquets. Nicole stole a sunflower and made away with it with her ice cream sticky hands.

They seemed so nimble and close to the ground to pick up the smallest of details.

Somewhere, Mary Oliver wrote that play is only so far away from true creativity. Some sort of validation for all the day-to-day free play Rue and I do.
